R. Pennington

My partner and I took the carry course in person and had a great experience! All of our questions were clearly answered, and I left the course feeling confident that I understood the basics of Minnesota firearm law as it pertained to me. My partner is a newbie with firearms, and Jordan essentially taught her the fundamentals of how to shoot while at the firing range. Overall, an awesome value, and I highly recommend it.

J. Welck

Took my CCW through them. Super convenient and affordable. I could do the non-range portion on my own time, was presented with all of the information I needed, and immediately set up a time/date to do the live fire portion.

B. Blocker

I recently completed the Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals course with Jordan Billings, and qualified for my CCW with that training. Jordan covers the subject clearly and thoroughly, and he welcomes questions and discussion. He has real world knowledge and experience, and I'm sure I learned much more in this course series than I would have elsewhere.

Process for a Permit to Carry in Minnesota:

Getting a permit to carry a firearm in Minnesota involves several steps. Here's a basic primer:

1. Eligibility

To qualify for a permit to carry, you must be at least 21 years old and a legal resident of Minnesota, or a non-resident who meets certain criteria.

2. Training

Completion of an approved firearms training course is mandatory. The course should cover firearm safety, handling, shooting fundamentals, and relevant MN laws. The training needs to be conducted by a certified instructor.

3. Application Process

You'll need to apply for the permit at your local county sheriff's office or, if you're a non-resident, through any MN county sheriff. You will fill out an application, provide documentation, and pay the required fee.

4. Documentation

Prepare to provide proof of identity and residency, along with any other documents the sheriff's office requires. This will include the certificate of completion from the permit course.

5. Background Check

A criminal background check will be conducted as part of the application process. Certain criminal convictions or other disqualifying factors may prevent you from obtaining a permit.

6. Waiting Period

The law allows for a 'grace period' after applying, during which the sheriff's office processes your application and conducts the necessary checks. This period can vary, but generally it cannot exceed 30 days without notice.

7. Permit Validity

If approved, your permit will typically be mailed to your address and will be valid for a set period of five years, after which you'll need to renew it.

8. Responsibilities

With permit in hand, it's essential to understand and adhere to Minnesota's carry laws. These include where you can and cannot carry, use of force regulations, and how to handle encounters with law enforcement while carrying a firearm.
